De Zeekoe Guest House South Africa

Graced with three overlapping flower zones, only 7 km from Oudtshoorn, the 2000 hectare 4-star accredited De Zeekoe Guest Farm/Reserve is part of one of the world's 17 "hot spots” with 3 overlapping flower zones.

The name, De Zeekoe, is derived from the Dutch name for the farm, Zeekoegat, which literally means ‘hippo waterhole’. Over a century ago, these odd-looking, water-loving creatures used to frequent the riverbed that still runs through the farm to this day. This owner managed farm has 16 stylish suites opening onto cool verandahs set in a lush indigenous garden with views of the Oliphant’s riverbed and mountains. 4 Secluded, amply equipped log cabins (built from removed alien poplar-wood to establish endemic brush) offer breathtaking views across De Zeekoe Lake.

Enjoy daytime activities: habituated wild Meerkat tours on the reserve, farm tours, biking, self guided walk, canoeing, fishing and birding (162 species) stargazing in unpolluted African night skies. Spot the resident African Fish Eagle pair, subjects of a Western Cape Raptor Research Program at the University of Cape Town. Treat yourself to complete relaxation in the saltwater pool. Lie down under shady trees for a massage or facial treatment. Come home to this tranquil oasis in the heart of the Klein Karoo. May the call of the Fish Eagle & picturesque Swartberg and Outeniqua mountain ranges welcome you. De Zeekoe offers city slickers the opportunity to unwind in a unique country setting along the famous Route 62, with activities like the daily meerkat tours, horseriding, canoeing, biking and eco farm tours, there is enough to keep you as busy or as relaxed as you need to be, the perfect en-route stop while doing the Garden Route and wanting to explore the Ostrich Capital of South Africa.
