The Ark Kenya

The Ark is 197 km north of Nairobi (about a 3 ½ hour drive). It is truly a world-famous lodge and one of Kenya's 'must do' experiences.

The Ark (as the name describes) is built to resemble Noah's Ark it floats amid the forests of the Aberdare National Park, joined to the world by its own wooden drawbridge. Inside this unique lodge an expectant hush pervades The Ark, as all conversations are whispered and everyone is sitting ready with binoculars and cameras, waiting for that moment. Guests get woken up early to catch both the wildlife and the first glimpse of Mount Kenya. There are different public viewing areas, where guests can see animals from three different levels, inside and out. There is a ground level photo hide with no glass in the windows, which allows guests to be but a couple of feet away from a herd of elephant and the Yasabara Waterhole, attracts animals from all over the park.

No private vehicles are allowed within the area, guests are brought in by bus from the nearby Aberdare Country Club, which serves as a kind of staging post for the Ark itself.
